Calling Station

Calling stations are people who never raise, never fold, they just call. They are the hardest to figure out because they never give you any indication of how strong or weak their hand is.
There are people who just can’t figure out how to play against these people. They try to bluff them out or bet on the end with marginal hands and lose. The look in disbelief that this person could call them with Queen high but because they were bluffing with Jack high, they lose. Then there is usually a rant by the Queen high guy when really he should have noticed that the guy he was playing against is a calling station and he was never going to win with that bluff. They are calling stations, they only call. How hard can it be to exploit them?
It’s actually relatively easy, if you have the goods bet. If you don’t, check. That’s it. However, that’s when it’s just you and the calling station. If there are more people in the hand, what do you do? Well that really depends on your hand. If it has lots of outs and has a good chance to draw to a powerful hand then I would be betting and if you chase out the others, then you can just check. If you hand is bad, why try to bluff out the other players when you know there will always be that one player who will not fold.
Calling stations are a pain in every poker player’s side because they always keep them honest. Remember the trick to playing against these types is to put the bluff away in the closest and only bet when you either have it or a great draw. If all else fails, you can always change tables.
