Poker Rake, The casino must always win!
Poker is different to other forms of gambling. With blackjack, craps and other casino games, the player is playing against the house. Because the house has a built-in advantage, they make their money from your losing bets. In poker, you are not playing against the house, but playing against other players. So your losing bets are going to another player and the bets you win are coming from other players.

So how does an online poker room or casino make money? Casinos which have poker rooms and online poker sites make their money by taking a commission from each pot. The commission is in the form of a percentage, so the larger the pot, the larger the commission taken. Since the winner of the hand collects the pot, you can think of the rake as a winner’s tax. However, the rake affects everyone who plays because everyone takes turns in winning the pot.

Although the rake taken is similar across most poker rooms, we will give you example of the low rake option in the industry. Charging 5% of the total hand pot in 0.05$/0.25$ increments up to a cap of $1 to $3 (depending on the game type and the table blinds). More details on the rake structure within the various poker sites can be found in participating card rooms’ sites.

Generally, the rake on online poker games is less than the rake on casino poker games.
